ECONOMY OVERVIEW
The region during the last years maintained a buoyed share to the country GDP up to 13% and is ranked among the 3 most important economical regions. Nitra has a core competency in the agricultural industry as compared to other regions; it has the highest share of the GDP in this regard estimated at 8%. Endow with a qualified labor force and a very good research and development potential for building industrial zones, its cities know a buoyed flow of foreign direct investment. The spaciousness of its cities and the availability of rental space, along with the industrial infrastructure, create favorable conditions for establishing businesses. Among economic advantages offered by the country is the flat and low tax rate for all types of revenues at 19% which is one of the lowest in Europe.
Industrial parks
Nitra as a region is the house of many companies evolving in various industrial sectors as automobile wire, electronics assembly, cable, shoes, scattered in 8 industrial parks which are levice Gena, Nitra, Zlaté Moravce, Vràble, Diakovce, Hurbanovo, cab, Palarikovo. While it is worth mentioning the establishment of an increasing number of electronic firms for which the most significant in the region includes Volkswagen, Siemens and recently FOXCONN which opened one of the biggest production facility for LED-TVs in the world in Nitra city Industrial zone. These three companies are among the top 500 largest companies in central and Eastern Europe. LABOUR MARKET AND EMPLOYMENT FIGURES
Nitra population workforce is estimated at 452867 people and its 2009 unemployment rate is 10.61%. This statistic lies behind those of other regions in the country. Despite an increase in the average monthly salary to €650 it still low than the national average of €750. There is a priceless number of young graduates estimated at more than 35% of the population from the 3 university (University of Constantinus, The Slovak agricultural university, The University of János Sely) 411 nursery school, 29 secondary vocational school, 25 secondary training centers and 17 integrated secondary schools.
Transport and facilities
The region good location in Europe gives it an enormous advantage in the receiving and sending of goods, it is even considered for that reason as the Detroit of Europe. The European multi-modal corridor number IV connects Berlin / Nuremberg - Prague - Kúty - Bratislava - Nové Zámky - Štúrovo - Budapest - Constantsa / Thessalonike / Istanbul. The region also extends to European multi-modal corridor number VI connecting Gdaňsk - Grudziadz / Warsaw - Katowice - Žilina - Bratislava. Through the Danube river ports in Komárno and Štúrovo, along with the existing river route along the Váh and the planned road network between Komárno - Nové Zámky and Nitra, goods can be shipped connecting other big destination in western as well as in Eastern Europe.
